Xi Jinping Shows his Solidarity with Putin, While Russia Warns UK with Threats of a “Nuclear Collision”

As the war between Russia and Ukraine escalates, countries begin to take sides, hurling accusations at each other, leading to threats of an imminent “nuclear collision”.

In a recent development in the tensions between Ukraine and Russia, tensions rise as the global community begins to form sides, leading the Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu to warn the West that they might be heading towards a nuclear ‘collision’. The declaration came after claims regarding Britain‘s intention to supply Ukraine with a nuclear component came to the surface. Shoigu has warned that in case of such an event, Moscow would reiterate and said that there were “fewer and fewer steps left” before the countries entered a nuclear war.

The UK however strongly condemned such claims and accused Putin of spreading deliberate misinformation. On Monday, the minister of state Annabel Goldie clarified that the armor-piercing rounds included in some of the ammunition for the Challenger 2 battle tanks that Britain was providing Ukraine with, contained depleted Uranium. Previously, NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg had claimed that there were signs that Vladimir Putin had applied to China for supplying them with lethal weapons. Though there are no hard proofs for the claim, he told reporters in Brussels that several “signs” were visible that such a decision was being considered in Beijing.

All this came after reports arrived that Chinese President Xi Jinping entered into a discussion and a “thorough” exchange of ideas with Putin regarding Beijing’s peace plan for Ukraine in Moscow. As the Chinese President left Moscow on Wednesday, the two Presidents looked forward to “shaping a new world order”, as they made a strong show of solidarity against the West and claimed, “Now there are changes that haven’t happened in 100 years. When we are together, we drive these changes.”

Meanwhile, the White House national security spokesperson John Kirby accused China of being partial in the matter of Ukraine’s invasion and supporting Russia’s cause by continuing business with them and buying Russian oil and energy. He was also criticized by Kirby for flying all the way to Moscow but not meeting President Zelensky or availing himself of the Ukrainian objective.

Previously, Russia has also claimed that one of its fighter jets had intercepted two US nuclear bombers over the Baltic Sea and released footage on Tuesday which was claimed to have been captured from a Russian Su-45 on Monday. Meanwhile, as Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida paid his visit to Ukraine, Russia sent some jets flying over the Sea of Japan.

The threat of a Nuclear Collision goes against the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) signed on 1 July 1968, whose major signatories included the USA, Russia, UK, and China among others. The threat of a nuclear collision would also be a threat to this treaty, leading to widespread death and destruction.
